Alcuin C. Fischer

June 11, 1938 — September 17, 2023

Pleasant Hill, Formerly of Independence

Alcuin Charles “Al” Fischer, 85, of Pleasant Hill, formerly of Independence, was born June 11, 1938, in Stover, Missouri, the son of Herman August and Elda Marie (Alpers) Fischer.  He departed this life Sunday, September 17, 2023, at his home surrounded with love and family.

Al was a 1956 Sweet Springs High School graduate.

On October 3, 1959, he was united in marriage to Ione Marie Franke in Independence.

Al was employed as a die maker for Hallmark, retiring in May 1994.  Following retirement, he was employed with Water District #15 for several years.  He was a former member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Independence where he was active with the “Saints of all Trades” men’s group. He was currently a member of the Amazing Grace Lutheran Church in Pleasant Hill and was active with the Pleasant Hill Lay Clergy.  He was very detailed oriented and enjoyed mowing and manicuring his yard, working on construction projects, and working with his jigsaw. He especially enjoyed time spent with family.

God's plan for Al's life is evidenced as early as the name chosen for him at birth.  The meaning of the name ALCUIN is:  "Sanctuary, Friend".  Al faithfully fulfilled the calling of his name by being a great source of strength and safe harbor, and by offering steadfast friendship to the many faces of humanity who crossed his path.  May that kind of full-circle legacy bring comfort to family and friends as we remember Al in the days and years to come. "Well done, my good and faithful servant!". Matthew 25:21

Al was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Merlin Fischer; and one sister, Eunice Kraxberger.

He is survived by his wife Ione Fischer of Pleasant Hill; two daughter’s and their husbands Julie and John Smith of Greenwood and Lori and Glen Santy of Independence; six grandchildren, Austin Smith, Anna (and Robbie) Haffner, Brad (and Taylor) Smith, Sam Smith, Drew Smith, and Evan Santy; six great grandchildren,  Calogero Thomas, Olivia Santy, Heidi Haffner, Henry Haffner, Jack Haffner, and Lucy Haffner; one brother, Ralph Fischer of Colby, Kansas; other relatives and friends.

Visitation and funeral services were held Monday, September 25, 2023, at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Independence.  Pastor Robert Malone of the Amazing Grace Lutheran Church officiated.  Inurnment was in the the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
