Arlen E. Mitchell

Arlen Elbert Mitchell, 95, of Pleasant Hill, was born October 25, 1929, in Pleasant Hill, the son of Lewis E. and Nannie E. (Small) Mitchell. He departed this life Friday, June 27, 2025, at his home surrounded with love and family.

Arlen was a 1947 Pleasant Hill High School graduate.

On June 8, 1950, he was united in marriage to Betty Jo Bunger at the Pleasant Hill First Baptist Church parsonage and to this union four children, Gary, Fred, Richard, and Susie were born. Betty preceded him in death on February 26, 2021

Arlen was employed by Central COOP, his family farm and the United States Postal Service. He was a former member of the Pleasant Hill First Baptist Church and was a current member of the Big Creek Baptist Church. He served for over 40 years as a Deacon as well as numerous other positions and committees. He enjoyed fishing, old tractors, and traveling, especially to Florida.

Arlen was also preceded in death by his parents; one son Fred Mitchell; one grandson, Logan Gray; and his siblings, Milton Mitchell and Sue Tehel.

He is survived by three children, Gary (and Catherine) Mitchell of Osceola, Richard Mitchell and Susie (and Darrell) Gray of Pleasant Hill; five grandchildren, Tracy Mitchell, Chris (and Debbie) Mitchell, Jacob Mitchell, Levi Mitchell, and Elizabeth (and Andy) Holt; and five great grandchildren, Tristan, Faith, Chloe, Cayden, and Brock; other relatives and friends, including great friend Becky Curtin.

The family would like to thank the following for the friendship, support, and care of their father in the past several years, including Arlen’s lunch helpers and his friends at his side to the end.

Visitation and funeral services were held July 1, 2025, at the funeral home.  Pastor Jason Shipley officiated. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers were Tracy Mitchell, Chris Mitchell, Tristan Mitchell, Jacob Mitchell, Chloe Mitchell, Brock Mitchell, Cayden Mitchell, Faith Mitchell, and Bill Tehel. Honorary casket bearers were Lloyd Ross and Junior Ross.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Logan Gray Memorial Scholarship. Checks should be made payable to the Pleasant Hill Education Foundation and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
