Betty Dickerson

BETTY J. DICKERSON

Betty Josephine Dickerson, 87, of Pleasant Hill, formerly of Lee’s Summit, was born, June 3, 1929, in Independence, Missouri, the daughter of Richard A. and Norma E. (Phillips) Hauer.  She departed this life, Monday, April 24, 2017, at the John Knox Village Care Center.

Betty was a 1947 Center High School graduate.

On June 14, 1946, she was united in marriage to Jim Dickerson in Kansas City. He preceded her in death on May 20, 1999.  Betty was employed as a Tax Examiner in Quality Control for the Internal Revenue Service in Kansas City.  She retired February 1, 1993, after 20 years of service. She and her husband, Jim also owned and operated the Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe out of their home for several years. After retiring from the IRS she owned and operated the Library Antiques- Soda Shoppe & Deli in downtown Pleasant Hill. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit and a member of the Grace  Family Fellowship/First Baptist Church of Pleasant Hill where she was involved in the SAM group. She was a lifelong Sunday School teacher, from the age of 12, at various churches throughout her life. She enjoyed collecting antiques, watercolor painting, church activities and serving the Lord through community service. However her greatest love was loving, caring and spending time with her family.

Betty was also preceded in death by her daughter, Cheryl Ferwalt; one great grandchild, Samantha (Ferwalt) MacDonald; and two brothers, Charles Hauer and Ross Hauer.

She is survived by three sons, Rick (and Janell) Dickerson of Martin City, Phil (and Stella) Dickerson of Cainta, California, and Dan Dickerson of Adrian; eight grandchildren, Kim Ferwalt of Pleasant Hill, Robert Ferwalt of Independence, and Jeff Ferwalt of Pleasant Hill, Justin (and Stephanie) Dickerson of Belton, Katie Godfredson of Olathe, Nicole (and Jarrod) Knick of Chino, California, Racquel Dickerson of Los Angeles, California, Joe Dickerson of Knoxville, Tennessee, Chrissy Roby of Rogers, Arkansas; nine great grandchildren, Haden, Ashanta, Mariah, Savannah, Dylan, Samara, Hannah, Amariah, and Joshua; other relatives; and a host of many friends.

Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2017, at the funeral home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 29, 2017, at the funeral home. Reverend Wyatt Shanks officiated. Music was rendered by Reverend Mark McGaughey.  The Eulogy was given by Kim Ferwalt with scripture readings by Ashanta Ferwalt, Mariah Dickerson and Savanna Dickerson.   Interment was in the Oakland Cemetery, Independence, Missouri. Casket bearers were Justin Dickerson, Jeff Ferwalt, Nels Godfredson, Henry Saubers and Mike “Twig” Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Rick Dickerson, Phil Dickerson, Dan Dickerson, Joe Dickerson, Haden Ferwalt and Robert Ferwalt Jr.

Memorial contributions are suggested the Alzheimer’s Association Heart of America  Chapter and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
