William J. “Bill” Baxter, 98, of Strasburg, was born August 18, 1918, in Independence, the son of Fred and Beulah (Manley) Baxter. He departed this life at 4:47 a.m. Monday, February 13, 2017, at the St. Luke’s Hospice House, Kansas City.
On April 7, 1938, Bill was united in marriage to Francis Glenn in Liberty. She preceded him in death on August 2, 2014.
Bill owned and operated a small farm near Strasburg; he had also worked for Sni-A-Bar Farms. He was also a gifted tractor mechanic and worked on the side for the Rex Spencer Equipment Co. He enjoyed traveling, reading Louis L’Amour, and watching western movies.
Bill was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, J.C. Baxter and Frank Baxter; and two sisters, Lucille Baxter and Loreen Baxter.
He survived by his daughter, Betty Richardson of Richmond, Missouri; three grandchildren, Guy (and Rhonda) Kinnison of Richmond, Ralph (and Julie) Kinnison of Lee’s Summit, and Lisa (and Jim) Goble of Greenwood; eight great grandchildren, Laura (and Ryan) Schmidt of Liberty, Jason (and Shanna) Kinnison of Richmond, Jeremy (and Megan) Holler of Independence, Jesse Goble of Lee’s Summit, Cole Goble of Greenwood, Whitney Kinnison of Kansas City, Dillon Kinnison of Kansas City, and Haley Kinnison of Lee’s Summit; four great-great grandchildren, Carson and Brooke Schmidt; Grayson and Izzlie Kinnison; other family and friends.
Visitation was held Friday, February 17, 2017, at the funeral home.
Graveside funeral services were held Saturday, February 18, 2017, at the Strasburg Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Luke’s Hospice House and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
