Billy F. Windes

Billy Frank Windes, 77, of Pleasant Hill, was born August 21, 1945, in Washburn, Missouri, the son of Grailie Black and Martha Louise (Johnson) Windes.  He departed this life Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at the Research Medical Center in Kansas City.

Billy was a 1963 Washburn High School graduate.  He went on to earn his Bachelor of Music degree from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar and his Masters Degree in Educational Media from the Central Missouri State University. 

He was a United States Army Veteran.

On June 27, 1969, he was united in marriage to Joyce Ann Sloan in Pleasant Hill.

Billy was first employed as a Music Teacher for one year in 1968. He then served in the Army for two years.  After serving he then began working as a Media Specialist for the Mid-Continent Public Library retiring after 32 years.  He was a former member of the Independence First Baptist Church and the Mt. Washington Methodist Church where he played the organ. He was currently a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. He enjoyed working with leaded glass, counted cross stitch, and playing the piano.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Sally Sue Windes. 

He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Pleasant Hill; two sons and daughters-in-law, Patrick Grailie (and Karin) Windes and Jason Todd (and Amy) Windes, all of Independence; three grandchildren, Evan Black Windes, Asher Karis Windes, and Hali Keren Windes; one sister, Patsy Jane Windes of Pleasant Hill; other relatives and friends.

A celebration of Billy’s life was held Friday, February 17, 2023, at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.
