Carrie Jo Curtis, 52, of Independence, formerly of Pleasant Hill and Collins, was born February 6, 1973, at the Research Medical Center in Kansas City, the daughter of Dave M. and Virginia (Smith) Smith. She departed this life Monday, December 29, 2025, at the Research Medical Center in Kansas City.
Carrie was a 1991 Pleasant Hill High School graduate.
On May 5, 1992, she was united in marriage to Chuck Potter in Pleasant Hill and to this union one daughter, Ginny, was born. July 12, 1997, she was united in marriage to Walter Curtis in Harrisonville and to this union two children, Kristine and Adam, were born; he survives.
Carrie was employed in customer service for Reegan Marketing, the American Food Service Co., and the Dunbrooke Apparel Co. in El Dorado Springs. She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, crocheting, singing karaoke, reading and writing. She had a wonderful sense of humor and could make anyone laugh even during hard times. Above all, family was most important to her, and she loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren.
Carrie was preceded in death by her mother, Ginny Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Walter of Collins; three children, Ginny Mae (and Rene) Ramirez of Blue Springs, Kristine (and Hector) Guzman of Higginsville, and Adam Curtis of Collins; two grandchildren, Luca Ramiriez and Emmanuel Guzman; her father David M. (and Bette) Smith of Kansas City; three siblings, Tawnya (and Jon) Parris of Pleasant Hill, Dana Marie Thornton of Sunrise Beach, and Randy (and Carrie Jo) Smith of Pleasant Hill; other relatives and friends.
Visitation and funeral services were held Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the funeral home. Her brother Randy Smith officiated.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Christmas for Kids and maybe sent in care of the funeral home.
