Cathy Gaye Griffith, 71, of Higginsville, Missouri, was born February 7, 1953, in Jackson County, Missouri, the daughter of Raymond L. and Mary L. (Grah) Greer. She departed this life Monday, January 6, 2025, at the Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg.
Cathy attended the Cedar Vale Seventh-Day Adventist private high school. She later attended Research Hospital School of Nursing, earning her Licensed Practical Nursing degree.
On May 10, 1975, she was united in marriage to Lawrence Allen Griffith, Jr. in Lee’s Summit. Allen preceded her in death on May 24, 2017.
Cathy was first employed as a LPN at the Research Medical Center in Kansas City where she fondly remembers taking care of President Harry Truman and later for the Lee’s Summit Community Hospital. After moving to Higginsville, she worked for the Habilitation Center and Moose’s Market. In her latter years, she worked as an assistant manager for the Dollar Tree in Higginsville. She was a member of the Warrensburg Crossroads Seventh-day Adventist church. She had many hobbies, including baking, painting and crafting. She also enjoyed horseback riding, geology, and traveling. She was well known for her big heart and overt kindness to people and animals.
Cathy was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Joshua Griffith on April 26, 2016 and Joseph Griffith on July 16, 2018; two brothers, Stevan Greer and Randy Greer; and one sister, Judy Ray.
She is survived by two daughters, Angela (and Jason) Scarborough of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, and Christina (and Gareth) Stevenson of Lakewood Ranch, Florida; eight grandchildren, Kyle (and Morgan) Scarborough, Dillion Griffith, Emmett Scarborough, Savana Scarborough, Evan Day, Jonah Stevenson, Ellory Stevenson, and Makenna Stevenson; two great grandchildren, Jackson Griffith and Julian Scarborough; one step granddaughter, Jo Jo Lo; former daughters-in-law Jonya Griffith-Castaneda and Hochi Chan-Griffith; three siblings, Charlotte (and Don) Taylor, Sandra (and Charles) Kluter and Rebecca (and Ervin) Heimsoth, and Jeffrey Greer.
Visitation will be held 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Jeff Fender will officiate.
Graveside services and interment will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday January 15, 2025, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville. Casket bearers are Dillion Griffith, Kyle Scarborough, Emmett Scarborough, Jason Scarborough, Marcus Davis and Clint Livings. Honorary casket bearers are Evan Day, Kevin Springer, Gareth Stevenson, Don Taylor, Charles Kluter, and Ervin Heimsoth
