Charles Spotts

January 9, 1930 — July 22, 2010

Charles E. Spotts, 80, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born Thursday, January 9, 1930 in West Plains, Missouri, the son of Charles A. and Matilda A. (Soper) Spotts. He departed this life and stepped into eternal life with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 10:20 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at his home surrounded by family and friends.

Charles honorably served our country in the United States Air Force from 1947-1949.

On July 29, 1950, he was united in marriage to Darlene Stephens in Coffeyville, Kansas.

Charles was a serviceman for Missouri Gas Energy starting in 1962 and retiring in 1989. In the late 1950's and early 1960's he was the Chief of Police and Fire Chief of Claycomo, Missouri.

Charles was a devoted family man and a man of God. He attended the Big Creek Baptist Church in Pleasant Hill.

He was preceded in death by his wife Darlene Spotts, son Charles Stephen Spotts and four brothers Clifford Spotts, Paul Spotts and John Spotts.

He is survived by his two daughters Nancy (and Stephen) Rhode of Holden, Missouri and Darla (and Tony) Echeita of Pleasant Hill; his daughter-in-law Lisa Spotts of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren Jeremy, Justin, Stephanie, Jessica, and Haley; eight great grandchildren; two sisters Jewel (and Bill) Norvell and Mary (and James) Boston both of Pleasant Hill; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, July 24, 2010 at the funeral home. Pastor Todd MacLean of the Big Creek Baptist Church officiated. An organ solo was rendered by Mrs. Haley Anderson and a poem was read by Mrs. Lisa Spotts.

Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with the flag folding and presentation by the VFW Post #3118 Honor Guard. Casket bearers were Tony Echeita, Jeremy Young, Justin Young, Kyle Cline, Skip Norvell, and Robert Boston. Honorary casket bearers were Stephen Rhode, Noah Young, Ayden Cline, James Boston, Bill Norvell, Tony Norvell, and Mike Beaty.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Life Outreach International and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Charles and Darleen donated thousands of dollars to Life Outreach International and provided for hundreds of thousands of children across the world.
