Cleo Chasteen

September 11, 1924 — February 3, 2014

Cleo Laverne Chasteen, 89, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born, September 11, 1924, in St. Claire County, Missouri, the daughter of Clarence and Ruth (Taylor) Domer. She departed this life at 6:45 a.m. Monday, February 3, 2014, at her home in Pleasant Hill.

Cleo was a 1943, Appleton City High School graduate.

On July 25, 1947, she was united in marriage to Dean M. Chasteen in Kansas City, Missouri.

Cleo spent her entire life as a missionary. She and Dean spread the Gospel of Salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ to the Central African Republic from 1952 to 1971. In 1971 they returned to the United States and continued their mission by working with the Carver Baptist Bible College in Kansas City. Her hobbies included reading and crocheting; for which she is famous for her crocheted puppy dogs. She also led a very active prayer ministry.

Cleo was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Delmar Domer; and two sisters, Marie Heiserman and Doris J. Wix.

She is survived by her husband Dean of the home; five children, Vickie (and Bruce) R. Cady, Tim D. (and Toni) Chasteen, all of Lee's Summit Darryl R. (and Cheryl) Chasteen of Liberty, Missouri, Terry L. (and Susan) Chasteen of Olathe, Kansas, and Cathy L. (and Houston) Sears of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; one brother Glenn H. Domer, of Butler, Missouri; 20 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; other relatives; and many friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 10, 2014, at the Grace Baptist Church, 7203 Paseo Blvd., Kansas City, Missouri, 64132. Dr. Aaron Lavender and Pastor Jim King will officiate. Private family services will be in the Strasburg Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church on Monday.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the ministry of Carver Baptist Bible College and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
