David Guffey

David Harold Guffey, 84, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri was born, January 26, 1938, in Ardmore, Missouri, the son of William Sidney and Ruby Lee (Haney) Guffey.  He passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Pleasant Hill Health and Rehabilitation.

David, one of eleven children, graduated in 1957 from Macon High School in Macon, Missouri. On October 26, 1963, he was united in marriage to Sandra White in Clarence, Missouri at the First Christian Church. David worked as a machinist until retiring from the Bayer Corporation in 2001. Simultaneously, he started his own company, Guffey Machine Shop, where he fulfilled orders for various businesses. David was a long-time member of Pleasant Hill First Christian Church.

David loved baseball. During his younger years, he played for the Ardmore Miners baseball team until he married the love of his life. He also found pleasure in meeting his friends daily for 6:00 A.M. coffee, collecting toys, and restoring antique furniture. David’s greatest joy was scouting local garage sales where he would bring gifts home to his grandchildren and treasures for his wife.

David will be remembered for being a hardworking, loving, loyal, and supportive husband, father, and grandfather. He had a comical side and was consistently making people around him laugh. Everyone who knew David would describe him as a kindhearted and devoted Christian.

David was preceded in death by his parents; and nine siblings, Mary, Gene, Tom, Lucille, Grace, Pat, Delbert, Ruth, and Arlene.

David is survived by his wife, Sandra Guffey of Pleasant Hill; his son, Mark Guffey (and wife Sherry) of Pleasant Hill; his daughter, Marla Tapia (and husband Paul) of Wentzville, Missouri; five grandchildren, Hannah Glidwell (and husband Ryan), Zachary Tapia, Madison Tapia, Jack Tapia, and Elijah Guffey; two great-grandchildren, Bentley Glidwell and Breelan Glidwell; one sister, Doretta Bruno of Raytown, Missouri; and beloved nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Visitation and funeral services were held Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at the funeral home.  Brother Dudley Morton officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.  Casket bearers were Ryan Glidwell, Zach Tapia, Jack Tapia, Elijah Guffey, Jim Sebree, and Ted Hartwick.  Honorary casket bearers were Doug Dempsey and Perry Wilmoth.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Pleasant Hill First Christian Church or the Pleasant Hill Lay Clergy Council and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
