DONALD E. HAYS
Donald E. Hays, 84, of Lee’s Summit, formerly of Pleasant Hill and Sunrise Beach, was born August 8, 1933, in Taberville, Missouri, the son of Everett W. and Jessie L. (Blystone) Hays. He departed this life, Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at the Seasons Care Center, Kansas City, surrounded with love and family.
On January 12, 1952, he was united in marriage to Marilyn M. Bryan in Independence, Missouri.
Don was employed as an Airline Mechanic for TWA retiring in 1988 after 36 years. He was an active member of Ancient Free & Accepted Masons for over 50 years and a 42 year member of The Order of the Eastern Star serving as Worthy Patron three times. He was also a member of the Kent Memorial Lutheran Church in Sunrise Beach. He enjoyed boating, playing golf, and traveling. He also loved riding motorcycles and at the age of 76 rode his Kawasaki motorcycle to Sturgis.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Everett Hays and Clifford Hays; and one sister, Joan Yoder.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn of Lee’s Summit; three children, Kim (and Edie) Hays of Farley, Missouri, Joy (and William) Whitlow of Sunrise Beach, and Ronda (and Tom Stone) Wood of Lee’s Summit; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren (with one on the way); other relatives and friends.
Cremation has been accorded.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 2, 2017, at the Kent Memorial Lutheran Church (184 Sunset Hill Dr, Sunrise Beach, Missouri 65079). Pastor Dave Beese will officiate. Music will be rendered by Ms. Leah Wood and Justin Herzina. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. There will be no visitation.
In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the Kent Memorial Lutheran Church.
