Dorothy Raffurty

Dorothy Mae Raffurty, 91, a lifelong resident of Pleasant Hill was born Sunday, January 6, 1918, in Pleasant Hill the daughter of Robert H. & Belva A. (Shoaff) Moore. She departed this life at 1:25 p.m. on Monday, July 6, 2009 at the Pleasant Hill Health & Rehabilitation Center.

On October 12, 1941 she was united in marriage to James A. Raffurty in Lee's Summit, Missouri.

Dorothy was a 1936 graduate of Pleasant Hill High School. She then went to work as a postal clerk for the Colonial Poultry Farms in Pleasant Hill for 19 years. After she married James she became a homemaker. She also co-owned and operated a bowling alley in downtown Pleasant Hill for a number of years.

She was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church where she had served as President, Treasurer and Secretary of the Pathfinders Sunday school class. She was also a member of the "Ore" Club.

Besides her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by an infant daughter Ruth Ann Raffurty and 1 brother Robert "Bob" Moore.

She is survived by 3 sons, John Raffurty of Pleasant Hill, Howard Raffurty and spouse Valerie of Harrisonville, William "Bill" Raffurty and spouse Bonnie of Pleasant Hill; 2 daughters Jean Hudson of Phoenix, Arizona, and Mary Roberts and Spouse Terry of Pleasant Hill; 6 Grandchildren; 6 Great Grandchildren; 1 brother Howard Moore of Pleasant Hill; 1 sister-in-law Mina Moore of Pleasant Hill; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 10, 2009, at the United Methodist Church of Pleasant Hill. Pastor Carl Knapp, minister of church officiated. Mr. Bill Cotton was the soloist. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers were Russell Daniels, Gene Hon, Bobby Moore, Richard Raffurty, Terry Roberts and Robert Woods.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Heartland Hospice and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
