Dorothy Mae Thorp, 92, of Pleasant Hill, formerly of Raytown, was born, November 3, 1930, in Henley, Missouri, the daughter of Jasper Warren and Elizabeth Louise “Lizzie” Comer. She departed this life, Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at the Lee’s Summit Medical Center.
Dorothy was a 1949 Pleasant Hill High School graduate.
Dorothy started her working career with the Sears & Roebuck Co. in Kansas City later going to work for the Department of Health and Senior services as a Contract Specialist. She last worked for the Nellie Dawn Fabric Store in Raytown. She was a member of the St. Bridget Catholic church in Pleasant Hill. She enjoyed walking, cooking, sewing, playing solitaire, and was an avid reader.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Kenneth Lyle Thorp, Sr.; her daughter, Carol Blum; five siblings, Jasper” Dode" Comer, Virginia Walker, Mary Jo Park, and Thresia “Terry” Kiger.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth L. Thorp, Jr. of Pleasant Hill; son-in-law, Ken Blum of Warsaw; two grandchildren, Chris (and Stephanie) Blum of Grandview and Melissa “Missey” (and Patrick Williamson) of Pleasant Hill; four great grandchildren, Jaydin Blum, Lilly Blum, Haley Williamson, and Hunter Williamson; her sister, Cordelia “Connie” Fisher of Pleasant Hill; other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, December 1, 2022, at the St. Bridget Catholic Church, Pleasant Hill. Reverend Curt Vogel officiated. Entombment was in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Casket bearers were Ken Blum, John Fisher, Rick Holt, Larry Kiger, Bobby Park, and Patrick Williamson.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Bridget Catholic Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
