Earl Albert Wingard, 79, of Strasburg, was born April 24, 1946, in Gary, Indiana, the son of Jess R. and Glenna J. (Poisel) Wingard. He departed this life peacefully Saturday, January 17, 2026, at his home surrounded with love and family.
Earl was a 1965 Calumet High School graduate in Gary.
On July 19, 1975, he was united in marriage to Cynthia Sue Barker in Covina, California, and to this union three children, Keith, A.J., and Caitlyn were born.
Earl was a proud Union Carpenter for 46 years at Cahill Construction, Winn-Senter Construction and Lytle Construction, retiring on February 28, 2011. A member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local #777 for 50 years, Earl took great pride in his craft and his union. Numerous construction projects across the Kansas City metro area bear his mark.
He was very active in the Strasburg community. He served on the Strasburg School Board for two terms, and on the Boards of Public Water Supply District #1, and the Strasburg Cemetery Association. He was an active supporter of the Strasburg C-3 School District and used his skills to lead many small construction projects for the school. He attended St. Bridget Catholic Church in Pleasant Hill. He loved to travel, was an avid train enthusiast, and working on countless projects around their farm. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.
Earl is survived by his wife, Cindi of Strasburg; three children, Keith (and Katie) Wingard of Strasburg, A.J. Wingard of Lee's Summit, and Cait Wingard (and Sam Burnett) of Kansas City; four grandchildren, Olivia Wingard, Caleb Wingard, Ethan Wingard, and Bridget Burnett; two sisters, Meta (and Dan) Czazasty of Hot Springs, South Dakota; and Nila (and Phil) Mann of Naples, Florida; other relatives and friends including dear friends Mike and Joyce Wheeldon of Pleasant Hill. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has been accorded. Private family services will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in the Strasburg Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Strasburg Cemetery or Strasburg C-3 PTO.
