Edith Harrer

October 2, 1915 — February 20, 2017

Edith Mae Harrer, 101, formerly of Pleasant Hill and Kansas City, was born October 2, 1915, in Hope, Kansas, the daughter of Martin “Lee” Leander and Emma Louise (Hebe) Harrer.  She departed this life at 2:33 a.m. Monday, February 20, 2017, at the Mt. Olivet Careview Home, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Edith and her family moved to Pleasant Hill when she was very young.  Edith attended elementary and high school in Pleasant Hill graduating in 1933.  She studied violin at the Kansas City Music Conservatory.  In high school she worked alongside her father at the Pleasant Hill Dairy, she went on to work for the Avon Cosmetics Company and later as a secretary for the Social Security administration.  She was a 60 year member of the Central Presbyterian Church, Kansas City.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Cameron Harrer, George Harrer, and Willard Harrer; and two sisters, Dorothy Crawford, and Pauline Ashcroft.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Kathryn Crawford of Minneapolis, Diane (and Cleo) Robinson of Omaha, Nebraska, Chuck (and Terri) Ashcroft of Hayesville, Kansas, and Norman (and Laurel) Ashcroft of Blue Springs, Missouri; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at the funeral home.  Reverend Heidi Peterson of the Central Presbyterian Church will officiate.  Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Pleasant Hill First Presbyterian Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
