EDITH E. PURVIS

Edith Elizabeth Purvis, 98, of Danville, Illinois, formerly of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, went to be with the Lord on March 20, 2018 in Danville, where she had resided at the Hawthorne Retirement Home for the last few years.

Edith was born November 1, 1919, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Swedish immigrants, John and Anna (Lindblom) Johnson.

She was a Kansas City East High School graduate.

On June 16, 1943, she was united in marriage to Harold Purvis in Kansas City. He preceded her in death on July 13, 1988.

Harold and Edith moved to Pleasant Hill, Missouri in 1943 where they operated a dairy farm for many years. Edith loved music and served as volunteer pianist/organist for forty years at First Baptist Church in Pleasant Hill where she and Harold were active members. She relocated to Danville, Illinois in 1998 to be nearer her daughter. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter and made sure each grandchild had one of her beautiful quilts. She also loved working in her flowers and received many awards for her beautiful yard in Danville.

Edith was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother Algot Johnson and an infant brother.

She is survived by her son, Stan (and Karen) Purvis of Lake Tapps, Washington; her daughter, Jeanne Burke of Danville; 7 grandchildren: Jeanne’s children, Ron (and Pamela) Burke of Oak Park, Illinois, and Donna (and Tony) Coleman of Covington, Indiana; Stan’s children Kris (and Jeff) Noland of Sweet Home, Oregon, and Vance Purvis of Bend, Oregon;  Stan’s step-children Teague McKamey of Ellensburg, Washington, Megan Barrett of Boston, Massachusetts, and Ian McKamey of Westminster, California; ten great grandchildren; four nephews and four nieces.

Funeral services were held 1Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the funeral home.  Mr. Will Purvis officiated. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Missouri Baptist Children’s home and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
