Elzora A. Seelinger

September 17, 1934 — April 2, 2024

Raymore, formerly of Pleasant Hill

Elzora Arlene Seelinger, 89, of Raymore, formerly of Pleasant Hill, was born Monday, September 17, 1934, in Sac City, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest Eugene and Edna Elzora (Moore) Myers.   She departed this life Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Saint Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City.

Elzora was schooled in El Dorado Springs, where she and her family had a small farm.  At the age of 14 she began waitressing at a local restaurant, after having previously worked at a shoe factory.  At the age of 16, she moved to Butler, where, in 1951, she met her future husband, Larry Ross Seelinger, at the local skating rink.  They were united in marriage on May 9, 1954, in Butler.  He preceded her in death on January 12, 2019.

Elzora was a gifted seamstress and used that gift working for the Nelly Don Garment Factory in Nevada, and the Burlington Shirt Factory in Pleasant Hill.  She finished her career at Bakan/Calmar in Lee’s Summit.  God’s special talent to her was her artistic ability, poetry, and sewing.  She enjoyed cooking German food and was happiest in her kitchen.  She will long be remembered for baking her famous homemade bread that she would give to her friends and family.  She also enjoyed a good game of Pinochle and loved to travel.

Most important to her was her relationship with the Lord.  She was baptized at the age of nine and was a member of the Baptist faith.  Her greatest joy, besides her own family, was her church family and she was actively involved in every church she attended. She was formerly a member of the Strasburg Baptist Church and was currently a member of the Big Creek Baptist Church in Pleasant Hill.  She and Larry were members of the New Faith Baptist Builders mission team and loved traveling together building churches.

Elzora was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Ernest Myers, Delbert Myers, and Leonard Myers; and two sisters, Letha Burnison and LoLene Stokes.

She is survived by her three children, Shelby R. (and Susan) Seelinger of Warrensburg, Glenda L. (and Guy) Lenox of Raymore, and Alan D. (and Ada) Seelinger of Raymore; four grandchildren, Shelby (and Bonnie) Seelinger II, of Warrensburg, Kathryn Lenox of Raymore, Shauna (and Dylan) Crews of North Kansas City, and Karalyn (and Brandon) Gibbs of Lee’s Summit; six great grandchildren, Shelby Seelinger III, Melanie Seelinger, Gordon Crews, Phoebe Crews, Amelia Seelinger, and Samantha Seelinger.  She will be missed by many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2024, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the funeral home. Reverends Preston Sanders and Jim Vest will officiate.
