Fern Louise Martin, 60, of Pleasant Hill, formerly of Lee's Summit, was born December 15, 1953, in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the daughter of Medard John and Anna Mae (Parrish) Bertrand. She departed this life at 3:05 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014, at the Kansas City Hospice House surrounded with love and family.
Fern was a 1971 Ruskin High School graduate.
On February 21, 1976, she was united in marriage to Jerry Virgil Martin in Kansas City, Missouri.
She was employed as an administrative assistant of the Department of Agriculture retiring in 2008. She was the ultimate loving mother and grandmother; she was always there for her children and grandchildren.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband Jerry of the home; three sons Jeffrey (and Lisa) Martin of Lee's Summit, Gregory (and Mary) Martin of Pleasant Hill, and Bradley Martin of the home; three grandchildren Isabella Martin, Abigail Martin, and Graham Martin; one brother Mike (and Sue) Bertrand of Joplin,; one sister Helen (and Dan) Troshynkski of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; other relatives; and many friends.
Visitation and the Recitation of the Rosary were held at the funeral home Sunday evening. Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, May 19, 2014 at the St. Bridget Catholic Church, Pleasant Hill. Father James Taranto and Monsignor Robert Murphy officiated. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers were Charles Martin III, Brandon Beeman, Troy Troshynski, Chris Bober, Mark Bertrand, and David Patrick.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Kansas City Hospice House and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
