Gary Sechrest

Gary Ellis Sechrest, 77, of Blue Springs, was born Tuesday, December 10, 1935, in Strasburg, the son of Harry Luther and Oma Lee (Markel) Sechrest. He departed this life at 12:30 a.m., Monday, February 25, 2013, at the Shangri-La Rehab & Care Center, Blue Springs.

As a child Gary Attended the Blind School in St. Louis. He never let his disability stop him. He ran the twice daily newspaper delivery route in Strasburg for many years and every Saturday would walk from Strasburg to Pleasant Hill to shop at Grays Furniture Store and Western Auto. He was an active member of the Strasburg Union Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Arlene Mitchell.

He is survived by two brothers Harry Sechrest, Jr. of Cameron, and Ross (and Juanita) Sechrest of Pleasant Hill; three sisters Lena (and Jim) Schmitt of Blue Springs, Lucy Bohannon of Raytown, and Pearl (and Warner) Cline of Waukesha, Wisconsin; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services wer held Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at the funeral home. Reverend John Clark and Mr. Eddie Sechrest officiated. Interment was in the Strasburg Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Crossroads Hospice or to the Strasburg Union Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
