GEORGE ALGOZZINI
George Algozzini, 91, of Grain Valley, formerly of Pleasant Hill, and Urich, was born, February 26, 1927, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Paul and Frances (Alongi) Algozzini. He departed this life Monday, March 19, 2018, at the North Kansas City Hospice House surrounded with love and family.
George was a 1946 East Chicago Roosevelt High School graduate.
He was a World War II Army Air Corps Veteran.
On May 28, 1949, he was united in marriage to Marilyn J. (Schaller) in East Chicago, Indiana; she preceded him in death on February 22, 1992. On March 19, 2002, he was united in marriage to Glena (Gooden) Perkins in Miami, Oklahoma; she survives.
George owned and operated G&M Produce. He had also operated bull dozers, farmed and trained thoroughbreds. He was a member of the St. Bridget Catholic Church, Pleasant Hill, and attended Holy Trinity Parish, Urich. He enjoyed watching old westerns, classical music, horse racing, watching the Chicago Bears, Cubs and the Blackhawks; he especially enjoyed playing cards.
George was also preceded in death by two daughters, Janette Algozzini and Marilyn Sue Timmons; three brothers, Joe Algozzini, John Algozzini, and Sam Algozzini; two sisters, Mary Lombardo and Josephine Chaffer; and two infant brothers.
He is survived by his wife Glena of Grain Valley; two sons Paul (and Linda) Algozzini of Kansas City, Missouri, and Frank (and Glenda) Algozzini of North Charleston, South Carolina; one daughter, Georgette (and Doug) Elder of Grain Valley; 10 grandchildren Paula (and Randy) Johnson, George (and Carrie) Algozzini, John Algozzini, Anthony (Saffron) Algozzini, Kristen (and Ryan) Kethman, Matthew Timmons, Samuel Timmons, Angela (and Charles) Key, Amanda (Nick) Chitwood, Alexandra Elder; 19 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2018, at the St. Bridget Catholic Church, Pleasant Hill.
Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the chuch. Saturday, March 24, 2018, at the St. Bridget Catholic Church, Pleasant Hill.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, March 24, 2018, at the St. Bridget Catholic Church, Pleasant Hill. Monsignor Robert Murphy officiated. Following mass full military honors were conducted by the United States Army and the V.F.W. Post #3118 Honor Guard. Casket bearers were, Paul Algozzini, II, Tony Algozzini, Nick Chitwood, Dalton Johnson, Randy Johnson, and Charles Key.
Graveside services and interment were held Monday, March 26, 2018, at the Lutie Cemetery, Theodosia, Missouri.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
