Following graduation, she returned to Sedalia to care for her grandparents and went to work in the offices of one of the local dime stores. Charles and Gloria moved to Kansas City in 1955. He went to work for Bendix, and she drove a school bus for the Jackson School Bus Company for 18 years. They later bought property near Pleasant Hill on which they built their home. She was a member of the Greater Kansas City Two-Cylinder Club, a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, and volunteered at the Pleasant Hill Lay-Clergy. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting, gardening, was an avid reader, and loved traveling.
In a note she left her family in regard to her life she said that she had no regrets, that she loved her cozy home, her family and that she was content for God to come take her to Charles where she belonged.
