Gloria Rahe Eagleburger, 91, of Pleasant Hill, was born July 8, 1932, in Sedalia, Missouri, the daughter of Wesley and Nina (Rutter) Goldsmith. She departed this life Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at the Lee’s Summit Medical Center.
Gloria spent the early years of her life in Sedalia where she attended Smith-Cotton through the eighth grade. She attended Springfield High School, Springfield, Missouri, graduating in 1950.
Following graduation, she returned to Sedalia to care for her grandparents and went to work in the offices of one of the local dime stores. After moving back to Springfield, she took a job as a waitress at a restaurant where her mother was a cook. Here she met a young soldier by the name of Charles Eagleburger who stopped in for a piece of her mother’s homemade cherry pie. They were married on October 19, 1952, and spent 61 happy years together. Charles preceded her in death on July 22, 2014.
Charles and Gloria moved to Kansas City in 1955. He went to work for Bendix, and she drove a school bus for the Jackson School Bus Company for 18 years. They later bought property near Pleasant Hill on which they built their home. She was a member of the Greater Kansas City Two-Cylinder Club, a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, and volunteered at the Pleasant Hill Lay-Clergy. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting, gardening, was an avid reader, and loved traveling.
In a note she left her family in regard to her life she said that she had no regrets, that she loved her cozy home, her family and that she was content for God to come take her to Charles where she belonged.
Gloria was also preceded in death by her son, Steven Eagleburger, who died on December 11, 2019; and three brothers, Tom Creviston, Glenn Davis, and John Davis.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Becky Eagleburger of Pleasant Hill; her daughter-in-law, Debbie Eagleburger of Blue Springs; four grandchildren, Andy (and Schona) Eagleburger of Blue Springs, Sharon (and fiancé Jerrod Meier) Eagleburger of Oak Grove, Matthew (and Natalie) Eagleburger of Hurdle Mills, North Carolina, and Michael (and Roisin) Eagleburger of St. Peters, Missouri; she was known as GGG by her eight great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Carsten, Ainsley, Marian, Annabelle, Emmeline, Susanna, and Cillian; one brother, Claude (and Jackie) Davis, Jr. of Osawatomie, Kansas; other relatives and friends.
