Harold Edward Howard, 81, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born September 24, 1942, in Salisbury, Missouri, the fifth of eight children born to Benjamin Franklin Howard, Jr. and Edna Frances (Stephens) Howard. He departed this life on Saturday, January 13, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
On March 19, 1960, he was united in marriage to Peggy Sue Johnson in Clifton Hill, Missouri. They would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in March.
Harold retired from the General Motors Leeds Plant and was a member of the United Auto Workers Local #93. He was also a home builder in the Pleasant Hill and Strasburg area. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, woodworking and spending time with his family.
He will be remembered as a hard-working, dedicated, and loving husband, father and grandfather.
He leaves behind his wife, Peggy of Pleasant Hill; daughters, Annita Cox of Raymore, Missouri, and Holly Vaughn and son-in-law Rick Vaughn (who was like a son to him), of Pleasant Hill; grandchildren, Mitch Vaughn (who provided daily assistance), Emily King, Rachel (and David) Wandel, Brian (and Wei) Cox, Sarah (and Mike) Brooks; great grandchildren, Maddox Edward, one of Harold’s eleven great grandchildren, is his namesake; others include Summer, Jack, Hudson, Wyatt, Blake and Rylee with another due in June.
Per Harold’s wishes cremation has been accorded. No services are scheduled.
Memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Mercy Hospital and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
