Harry Sechrest, Jr

July 29, 1923 — June 20, 2013

Harry Luther Sechrest, Jr., 89, of Cameron, Missouri, formerly of Blue Springs and Pleasant Hill, was born, Sunday, July 29, 1923, in Strasburg, Missouri the eldest son of Harry Luther and Oma Lee (Markle) Sechrest. He departed this life at 4:24 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at the Missouri Veterans Home, Cameron, Missouri.

In his early years Harry worked on the farm in Strasburg alongside his parents and siblings. In July of 1944 he joined the United State Army and served in WWII and Korea. On October 23, 1947, he was united in marriage to Norma Jean Flippo. Together they had two sons, Harry in 1951 and Berl in 1955. She preceded him in death on February 2, 2003.

After the boys were born they moved from Independence to a farm southeast of Pleasant Hill, where he worked on the farm and at Remington Arms before retiring in 1973. Later, he and Norma moved back to Independence where they spent the remainder of their 56 years together. Harry loved auctions, and never came away empty handed.

He was preceded in death by one sister Arlene Mitchell and one brother Gary Sechrest.

He is survived by his sons, Harry (and Terry) Sechrest, III of Independence, Missouri, and Berl (and Pam) Sechrest of Wichita, Kansas; one brother, Ross (and Juanita) Sechrest of Pleasant Hill; three sisters Lena (and Jim) Schmitt of Blue Springs, Missouri, Pearl (and Warner) Cline of Waukesha, Wisconsin; and Lucy Bohannon of Raytown, Missouri; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-children; other relatives and friends.

Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service was held Monday, June 24, 2013, at the funeral home. Reverend D. Kent Deubner officiated. Full military honors were performed by the United States Army and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3118 Honor Guard.

Inurnment will be in the Strasburg Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Comfort Care Hospice or the Parkinson's disease foundation and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
