Helen Tressia Allen, 90, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born Saturday, March 24, 1923, in Independence, Missouri, the daughter of Charles H. and Bertha Tressia (Martin) Williams. She departed this life at 4:35 a.m. on Monday, May 6, 2013, at the Pleasant Hill Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Helen was a 1941 Buckner High School graduate.

On October 3, 1947, she was united in marriage to Merlin Stewart Allen in Independence. He preceded her in death on March 11, 1997.

Helen was a homemaker. Her hobbies included sewing, cross stitching, quilting, and painting. She was an active member of the Pleasant Hill Community of Christ Church in which she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She also attended Slover Park Community of Christ and Kentucky Hills Community of Christ in Independence. She was a member of the Ore Club in Pleasant Hill and was Founder of the Friendly Street Club in Independence. She was a volunteer for Pleasant Hill Meals on Wheels and at Pleasant Hill Health and Rehabilitation.

She was also preceded in death by one granddaughter Melissa Wanjean Allen on April 17, 2002, one brother Charles Williams, and one sister Alice Patrick.

She is survived by two sons Roger E. Allen and his wife Cyndi, and Mark S. Allen and his wife Nancy, all of Pleasant Hill; one granddaughter Tressia Michelle Ream and her husband Dr. Daniel Ream of Warrensburg; other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church on Thursday.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 9, 2013, at the Community of Christ church, Pleasant Hill. Elder Kenneth Tucker officiated. Music was rendered by Janice Tuttle, organist, with duets by Donna Harper and Laura Jenkins. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers were Brad Harper, Charles Howe, Dennis Patrick, Lyle Rosanbalm, Rick Tucker, and Allen Williams, with honorary casket bearer Andy Mitchell.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Community of Christ church, Pleasant Hill, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
