J. Hull

September 17, 1958 — October 7, 2010

Jerry Brett Hull 52, of Pleasant Hill, was born Wednesday, September 17, 1958, in Harrisonville, the son of Jerry and Jean (Larson) Hull. He departed this life unexpectedly, as a result of natural causes, at his home on Wednesday, October 7, 2010.

On October 16, 1991, he was united in marriage to Debbie Duncan in Las Vegas, Nevada.

As an infant, his life was saved by the skilled physicians and nurses at Children's Mercy Hospital. Except for the years he worked in Salt Lake City, Utah, Brett lived all his life in Pleasant Hill. He attended Pleasant Hill schools from kindergarten through his graduation in 1976. Brett loved sports and played football at the center position. He was the All-District center his senior year and played on the first two teams Pleasant Hill sent to the State Playoffs. Following high school, Brett went to work for Yellow Freight, retiring in 2008 with 30 years of service. Brett was a hard and tireless worker. He was very proud of his 30 years of service and was enjoying his well-earned retirement. He was a member of Teamsters Local #41.

While with Yellow Freight, he was transferred to Salt Lake City for several years where he and Debbie became loving, surrogate parents to Jonah, Lacie and Ben Helfert. Brett always considered Pleasant Hill his home, and could hardly wait to return here permanently.

Bret, aka "JB or UB", loved to play and follow sports with his family and friends. He was a wonderful Uncle, lively and fun to be around. Brett loved his family deeply and was well loved by every one of them.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his wife Debbie; his mother, Jean Hull of Pleasant Hill; two brothers Bruce Hull and Jim (Nancy) Hull of Pleasant Hill; two sisters Jeanette (Dale) Heibert and Carolyn (David) Walker, of Pleasant Hill; mother-in-law Daisy Duncan of Harrisonville; stepdaughter Beth (Michael) Pate of Pleasant Hill; brothers-in-law Brent (Marti) Duncan of Pleasant Hill and P.D. (Linda) Duncan of Kingsville; granddaughter Josie Pate; nieces Tracy Hull and Jennifer Neal of Kansas City, Caitlin (Zachary) Walker O'Neill of Holly Ridge, North Carolina, Lindsay Neal of Lee's Summit, Michelle Duncan and Sarah Duncan of Pleasant Hill; nephews Jason (Ryan) Hull, Jeff (Carrie) Hull, Dustin Duncan, Logan (Amy) Hull, Ryan Walker and Samuel Walker all of Pleasant Hill, and Kyle (Megan) Hull of East Lynne; 10 great nieces and nephews; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Cremation has been accorded per Brett's request. A Graveside service with inurnment was held on Monday, October 11, 2010, at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Pastor Preston Sanders of the Strasburg Baptist Church officiated.
