Jack M. Vochatzer

Jack Milton Vochatzer Sr., 92, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born March 1, 1933, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Benjamin P. and Pearl M. (Sharon) Vochatzer. He departed this life Sunday, July 27, 2025, at the St. Joseph Medical Center.

Jack was a 1951 Northeast High School graduate. He furthered his education at the Kansas City Junior College, Kansas University, the University of Texas, returning to KU for his master’s degree in civil engineering.

Jack was United States Army Korean War Veteran.

On June 16, 1956, he was united in marriage to Neita Jean Simmons in Independence and to this union four children, Charles, Jack Jr., Karl and Patti were born; she preceded him in death in February 1983. On January 18, 1986, he was united in marriage to Linda (Dubach) Caskey in Raytown. She brought with her four children, Troy, Eric, Craig, and Jennifer.

Jack was employed as a Hydrologist for the National Weather Service forecasting river levels throughout the entire mid-west. Following retirement, he worked as a substitute teacher for the Pleasant Hill R-III school district for nearly 20 years. He was a former member of the Raytown Baptist Church, was a current member of the of the Lee’s Summit Community Church, was an Ancient Free and Accepted Mason (he once attended lodge with Harry Truman). Jack was always busy working in his yard, working on his cars, or volunteering around town.

Notably Jack was an avid tennis player. He played tennis daily after work, gave countless lessons, and played until the age of 90. He was a charter member of the United States Tennis Association and was ranked by the association in the Missouri River Valley.

Jack is survived by eight children, Charles (and Linda) Vochatzer of Dallas, Texas, Jack Vochatzer, Jr. of Independence; Karl (and Annette) Vochatzer of Oregon, Patti (and Brandon) Yearta, Troy (and Kenda) Caskey of Lake Winnebago, Eric Caskey of Olathe, Craig Caskey, and Jennifer (and Paul) Beatty; sixteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one brother Frank Vochatzer of North Kansas City; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by fourteen siblings.

Visitation and funeral services were held Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Pastors James Stanfield-Myers and Doug Brown officiated. Casket bearers were Alex Caskey, Austin Caskey, Carter Caskey, Taylor Caskey, Elliott Forton, and Paul Vochatzer.

Graveside military services and interment were in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with full military honors by the United States Army and the V.F.W. Post #3118 Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions are suggested to V.F.W. Post #3118, Pleasant Hill Lay Clergy, or City Union Mission, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
