James William “Jimmy” McMurphy Jr., 86, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born October 1, 1939, in Wiggins, Mississippi. He departed this life Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the Crown Care Center in Harrisonville, Missouri.

Jimmy was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at a young age. He grew up and attended school in Wiggins and lived there until his mother passed away in the late 1990’s. He was a devout Christian and a member of the Pleasant Hill Church of Christ. He enjoyed eating, taking a ride (he was especially fond of rides on the Oats bus), and always loved a good game of Bingo. He never met a stranger and was kind to everyone he met, and he never said anything mean or cruel. All who knew him loved him and will be long remembered for his sweet and kind demeanor.

James was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, John E. and Nellie Ruth (Phillips) Dunway and one niece, Sandra Lane

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Sherrie and Billie Snyder of Pleasant Hill; niece and nephews, Sharon Epting of Florence, Mississippi, Paula (and Craig) Long of Holden, Missouri, Frank (and Maureen) Collier of Overland Park, Kansas, Darla (and Darren) Todd of Smithville; step nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the funeral home.

Graveside services followed in the Staley Mound Cemetery. Pastor Mark Schwartz officiated.
