James Porter

James Francis Porter, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born December 5, 1915 in Greenwood, Missouri, the son of John L. and Kathryn (Bunnell) Porter. He departed this life Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at his home of 65 years near Pleasant Hill at the age of 90 years, 10 months and 6 days.

On March 12, 1941, James was united in marriage to Esther B. Porter in Pleasant Hill, Missouri.

James was a farmer and butcher in Cass County all of his life retiring in 2001. There was not a road in Cass County that he did not butcher on. He loved the outdoors and spent most evenings fishing in his catfish pond. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Sue and two brothers, John and Jesse Porter.

He is survived by his wife Esther B. Porter of the home; a daughter, Barbara Colacicco, Pleasant Hill, Missouri; three grandchildren, Thomas Poindexter, Jimmy Poindexter and Brenda O'Kane and husband Rick; three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; a brother, William Porter, San Diego, California; two sisters, Catherine Freeland and Dorothy Springer, both of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services were held Friday, October 13, 2006, at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill with burial in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Grace Hospice.
