James Russell Voorhees, 75, a lifetime resident of Pleasant Hill, was born Sunday, July 10, 1938, in Pleasant Hill, the son of Walter L. and Callie M. (Srader) Voorhees. He departed this life at 10:41 a.m. Thursday, December 26, 2013, at his home surrounded with love and family.
On December 10, 1960, he was united in marriage to Alice Jean Walker in Miami Oklahoma.
Jim was a pipefitter for the Lake City Army Ammunition plant retiring in 1993.
He enjoyed hunting, trapshooting, fishing, old cars and was an avid gardener.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; one grandchild, Kali Lynn Voorhees; and two brothers Walter Voorhees, Sr. and Charles Voorhees.
He is survived by his wife Alice of the home; one son Russell (and Kelli) Voorhees of Pleasant Hill; two daughters Kimberly Ann Voorhees of Climax Springs, Missouri, and Barbara Sue (and Steven) Willetts of Blue Springs, Missouri; four granddaughters, Jessica Willetts and Shelby Willetts, both of Blue Springs, and Makenzie Voorhees and Madison Voorhees, both of Pleasant Hill; other relatives; and a host of many friends.
Visitation was held Sunday, December 29, 2013, at the funeral home.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 30, 2013, at the funeral home. Elder Duane Rogers officiated. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers were Chris Brockman, Willard Hill, Carson Kinnison, Steve Longmeyer, Jim Mayabb, and H.A. Todd.
