John Thornhill Rector, III, 84, of Pleasant Hill, was born, November 29, 1932, in Kansas City, the son of John T., II, and Jecelyn (Shires) Rector. He departed this life, Thursday, December 8, 2016, at the Kansas City Hospice House.
John was United States Navy Korean War veteran.
He was a graduate of the Pembroke Country Day School in Kansas City; furthering his education at Beloit College and at the Iowa State University.
On July 3, 1959, he was united in marriage to Ernestine P. Erxleben.
John owned and operated Dan’s Spring Works in Kansas City. He later moved to and operated the family farm north of Pleasant Hill.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Ernestine Rector of Pleasant Hill; two sons, Colonel Russell (and Mary) Rector of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Michael Rector of Tallahassee, Florida; one daughter, Susan (and Darrel) Goodwin of Tallahassee; and one grandson, Sammy Rector of Murfreesboro.
