Johnnie J. Smith

Johnnie Junior Smith, 87, of Independence, was born January 23, 1936, in Butler, Missouri, the son of John O. and Clara E. (Thomas) Smith.  He departed this life Sunday February 19, 2023, at the Pleasant Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Johnnie was a 1954 Ballard High School Graduate.

On November 24, 1956, he was united in marriage to Evon Moore in Butler. 

Johnnie was employed as a HVAC Technician for Honeywell retiring in 1996. He also owned and operated his own HVAC company and built several homes.  Johnnie was a member of the Assembly of God Church.  He enjoyed camping, fishing, and working in his yard.  He was especially fond of spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. 

Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Helen Van Eaton, Ethel Swayla, Irene Smading, George Smith, J.B. Smith, and Shirley Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Evon of Independence; four children, Vickie (and Bill) Broggi of Independence, John (and Julie) Smith of Greenwood, Kathie (and Robert) Morse of Holden, and Troy (and Melissa) Smith of Independence; ten grandchildren, Madison Broggi, Gabi (and Ben) Fizer, Austin Smith, Anna (and Robbie) Haffner, Brad (and Taylor) Smith, Sam Smith, Falon Smith, Dylan (and Jessica) Thomas, Sky (and Josh) Vaughn, and Steele Smith; thirteen great grandchildren, Remington, Henry, Heidi, Jack, Lucy, Presley, Quincy, Orville, Opal, Ophelia, Jayce, Caroline, and Eveah, sister in laws, Betty Moore , and Loraine Smith; and other relatives and friends.

Visitation and a memorial service was held Saturday, February 25, 2023, at the Amazing Grace Lutheran Church in Pleasant Hill .  Pastor Robert Malone officiated. 

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Pleasant Hill Lay-Clergy Love Fund and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
