Joy Virginia Young, 66, of Pleasant Hill, was born December 9, 1956, on a naval base in Yokosuka, Japan, where her father was stationed. She was the daughter of James R. and Joyce L. (Crowley) Hart. She departed this life Monday, July 31, 2023, at her home.
Joy was a 1975 Raytown South High School graduate.
On February 7, 1976, she was united in marriage to Terry L. Young in Raytown.
Joy was employed at Perfect Promotions as a Sales Representative. She had also been employed as an Administrative Assistant for Burns & McDonnell. She was an active member of the Greenwood Fellowship Church and served in the Stephens Ministry. When spending time at their lake house Terry and Joy often attended The First Baptist Church in Hermitage. Following the death of her son in 2013 she became actively involved with the “While We’re Waiting Refuge” in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She served on the Paul Busch Foundation board where she also helped organize scholarships. Joy enjoyed baking, gardening, was an avid reader, and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Joy was a woman of strong faith whose personality touched so many. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Matthew L. Young; one infant nephew, Ryan B. Thomas; one infant niece, Kelly Hart.
She is survived by her husband, Terry Young of the home; three daughters, Jacki Scott of Savannah, Missouri; Rachel (and Casey) Baker of Troy, Kansas, and Sarah (and Andrew) Buchanan of Springfield, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Rylee Scott, Seth Scott, Adryan Scott, Jayden Wall, Ashtyn Wall, Kynley Baker, Zachary Buchanan, and Colby Buchanan; three siblings, Nancy Ewan of Raytown, Jimmy Hart of Olathe, and Carol (and Mark) Schindel of Raymore; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of many friends.
Visitation and funeral services were held Monday, August 7, 2023, at the Fellowship Church, Greenwood Campus. Pastor Chris Williams officiated. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers were Andrew Buchanan, Casey Baker, Rylee Scott, Seth Scott, Jayden Wall, Zachary Buchanan, and Colby Buchanan.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the “While We’re Waiting Refuge” and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
