J.W. King, 86, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born Saturday, December 19, 1925 in Watertown, Tennessee, the son of Selmer Turney and Etta (Malone) King. He departed this life at 12:00 a.m., Monday, May 14, 2012 at the Lee's Summit Medical Center surrounded with love and family.
On May 23, 1953, he was united in marriage to Juanita Jean Goble in Iatan, Missouri.
J.W. was a laborer with Armco Steel retiring in 1987. He was an active member and deacon of the Big Creek Baptist Church.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Clyde King and three sisters Johnnie Humphrey, Mable Ballew, and Vernelle McClanahan.
He is survived by Juanita, his wife of nearly 60 years, of the home; one daughter Rochelle (and Mark) Gray of Pleasant Hill; two sons Tim (and Julie) King of Belton, Missouri, and Kerry (and Sarah) King of Raymore, Missouri; seven grandchildren Jason (and Lisa) Gray of Holden, Missouri; Leanne Gray of Pleasant Hill, Ryan Gray of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Stacy (and George) Billings of Harrisonville, Missouri, Scott King of Fort Worth, Texas, Kevin King and Suzanne King of Raymore; five great grandchildren; one sister Anna Mai Crowder of Smithville, Tennessee; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 18, 2012, at the funeral home. Reverend Todd MacLean officiated. Mrs. Janet O'Niell rendered the music. Honorary casket bearers were Greg Anderson, Durwin Baakin, Dale Barbarick, Bernie Benware, Rick Benware, Bill Cotton, Mark Gray, David Hertzog, Paul Miller, Gib Sudduth, and Bill Truninger. Cremation was accorded following the service. Inurnment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation was held Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Big Creek Baptist Church Building Fund and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
