Kevin Michael Shafer Sr., 67, of Windsor, formerly of Independence, was born December 1, 1958, in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Buster and Margaret Shirley (Paddock) Shafer. He departed this life Sunday, February 15, 2026, at North Care Hospice with his family by his side.
Kevin was a 1976 graduate of Schlagel High School.
On July 2, 1978, he was united in marriage to Cynthia Ellen Sharp in Kansas City, Kansas, and to this union four children Gary, Kevin Jr., Hattie, and Danny were born. Cynthia preceded him in death on November 3, 2006.
Kevin was employed as a Machine Operator for Owens-Corning in Kansas City, Kansas for over 35 years, where he was a member of the International Association of Heat & Frost Insulators Local #1. He was of the Baptist Faith. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and being outdoors. He also enjoyed watching all sports and was an avid Royals fan.
Kevin was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, David Shafer and John Shafer; and one granddaughter, Reanna Shockley.
He is survived by his four children, Gary Sharp of Neosho, Kevin (and Carmel) Shafer, Jr. of Independence, Hattie (and Justin) Reece of Grain Valley, Danny Lee Shafer of Raytown; four grandchildren, Summer Sharp (and Bobby Miller), Timothy Sharp, Sativa Shockley, and Gage Shafer; three great grandchildren Tobias, Rhyland and Madalyn; other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Mr. Ray Martin will officiate. Interment will follow in the Strasburg Cemetery. Casket bearers are Codee Blanchett, Bobby Miller, J.D. Moffett, Michael Puff, Gage Shafer, and Timothy Sharp.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Shriners Children's Hospital and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
