Lawrence Allen Griffith, Jr., 63, of Odessa, was born, June 13, 1953, the son of Lawrence A. and Margaret V. (Long) Griffith, Sr. He departed this life, Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at the Centerpoint Medical Center, Independence.

Allen was a 1971 Lee’s Summit High School graduate. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1971 to 1974.

On May 10, 1975, he was united in marriage to Cathy Greer in Lee’s Summit.

Allen had been employed as a truck driver for Crete Carriers and Waller Trucking; later he worked as a security guard for Securitas. He had also worked for General Motors and was a proud U.A.W. member. Allen loved music and enjoyed playing many instruments, including trumpet, guitar, and piano; he also composed music. He was a gifted artist.

Allen was preceded in death by one son, Joshua A. Griffith on April 26, 2016.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy Griffith of Higginsville; one son, Joseph (and Hochi) Griffith of Buffalo, New York; two daughters, Angela (and Jason) Scarborough of Odessa, and Christina (and Gareth) Stevenson of Ruckersville, Virginia; daughter-in-law, Jonya Griffith of Independence; 7 grandchildren, Kyle Scarborough and Dillion Griffith, both of Higginsville, Emmett Scarborough and Savana Scarborough, both of Odessa, Evan Day and Jonah Stevenson both of Ruckersville; infant Ellie Stevenson; step-granddaughter, Jojo Lo of Buffalo; his parents, Lawrence and Margaret Griffith of Raymore; his sister, Joyce Giaccetti of Raymore; other relatives and friends.

Visitation and funeral services were held Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at the funeral home. Graveside military services and interment followed in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with full military honors by the U.S. Army and the V.F.W. Post #3118 Honor Guard. Casket bearers were Marcus Davis, Dillion Griffith, Joseph Griffith, Emmett Scarborough, Jason Scarborough, and Kyle Scarborough, and honorary casket bearer Gareth Stevenson.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
