LaVon Bernice McClintock, 94, of Independence, was born Wednesday, April 3, 1919 in Nokomis, Illinois, the daughter of Peter and Mary (Stonger) Ruppert. She departed this life at 8:00 a.m., Thursday, May 30, 2013, at her daughter's home surrounded with love and family.

LaVon was a homemaker. She was a member of the Spring Branch RLDS church in Independence.

In her spare time she volunteered at the Cancer Institute where she made over 7000 peanut pillows. Her hobbies included cooking, baking, sewing, and gardening; especially cucumbers, and making her famous pickles. She loved tending to her Tropicana rose bushes and irises. She and Clark made many trips to Branson, enjoying the old time country shows. Most importantly was her family.

LaVon was preceded in death by one brother, Merle Ruppert; and three sisters Lillian Karr, Ailene Friend, and Velma Hobbs.

She is survived by her husband Clark of Independence; one son Gene (and Sandy) Whisler and one daughter Judee Wilkinson both of Independence; four grandchildren, Gena (and Pat) Breyne of O'Fallon, Kim (and Robert) Lewis of Shawnee, Ricci (and Holly) Beyers of Lee's Summit, and Randi (and Eric) Moreau-Sipiere, of Como, Texas; 7 great- grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank everyone with Grace Hospice for the overwhelming care and support.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 1, 2013, at the funeral home. Chaplain Theresa Dembeck officiated. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers were Cody Beyers, Ricci Beyers, Conor Breyne, Pat Breyne, Robert Lewis, and Gene Whisler.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to Grace Hospice and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
