Leonard Bunnell

December 25, 1934 — June 18, 2014

Leonard Melton Bunnell, 79, of Liberty, Missouri, was born December 25, 1934 in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, the son of Charlie Henry and Gertrude Marie (Wade) Bunnell. He departed this life Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at the Liberty Hospital.

Leonard was a 1952 Westport High School graduate. He later attended Northwest Missouri State in Marysville.

On July 3, 1955, he was united in marriage to Carol Ann Walker in Wyota, Iowa.

He was employed as a sheet metal worker. He worked for and was an active member of the Sheet Metal Local Union #2. He was a member of the St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Kansas City.

In his spare time he enjoyed tinkering around the house and fishing.

Leonard was preceded in death by three brothers, William Bunnell, Charles Bunnell, and Bud Bunnell.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Carol of the home; four sons, Steven (and Catherine) Bunnell of Gladstone, Timothy (and Tina) Bunnell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Patrick (and Patti) Bunnell of Wilson Creek, Washington, and James (and Mary) Bunnell of Platte City; one daughter, Rebecca (and Tom) Brown of Liberty; 17 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; his best friend and confidant Sam (and Connie) Hale of Kansas City, Missouri; other relatives and friends.

Private graveside services and interment were held Saturday, June 21, 2014, in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Monsignor Robert Murphy of the St. Bridget Catholic Church officiated. Casket bearers were Chase Brown, Tommy Brown, Courtney Bunnell, Curtis Bunnell, Mitch Bunnell, and Andrew Gile. Serving as honorary casket bearer was Sam Hale.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Lung Association and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
