Loeda Irene Helmig, 76, of Lone Jack, was born April 4, 1937, in Hollywood, California, the daughter of Stephen and Izola Loeda (Snow) Marriott. She departed this life at 8:30 a.m., Monday, February 10, 2014, at her home surrounded with love and family.

On September 30, 1956, she was united in marriage to Russell L. Helmig in Lone Jack.

Loeda was a 1955 Lone Jack High School graduate. She later attended the St. Luke's School of Nursing and graduated in 1974.

She was employed as a Registered Nurse and Patient Care Supervisor for Truman Medical East retiring in 1994. While in high school, she worked part-time as a telephone operator for United Telephone in Lone Jack. Later, and prior to nursing, she was a homemaker and a telephone operator for Black, Sivalls, & Byson as well as Butler Manufacturing in Kansas City.

She was an active member of the Lone Jack Christian Church. There, she played the piano and organ for over 45 years, served as a Sunday school teacher, worked with the children's ministry, was a member of the CWF, and provided the church with a puppet ministry. She was also a member and active volunteer with the Lone Jack Civic Club, Lone Jack Museum, and the Red Hats Society. She loved traveling, oil painting, gardening, cooking, and most importantly, she loved spending time with her family.

Loeda was preceded in death by her parents and an infant daughter.

She is survived by her husband Russell of the home; three sons Stephan Helmig of Stafford, Texas, Jim (and Terri) Helmig of Warrensburg, and John Helmig-Barrett of St. Louis; five grandchildren, Jeff (and Lacey) Helmig of Raytown, Trista (and Ian) Rizk of Houston, Texas, Ryan Helmig, Jordan Helmig, and Katelyn Helmig, all of Warrensburg; two great grandchildren, Sammi Helmig and Sage Rizk; one brother Phillip Marriott of Lone Jack; two sisters, Carolyn (and Larry) Hinkle of Independence, and Mary Jane (and Roger) Nelson of Lone Jack; other relatives and a host of many friends.

Visitation was held Thursday, February 13, 2014, at the funeral home.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 14, 2014, at the funeral home. Reverend Ann Kircher of the Lone Jack Christian Church officiated. Interment was in the Lone Jack Cemetery. Casket bearers were Keith Beasley, Jim Briegel, Harold Hackler, Jeff Helmig, Jordan Helmig, and Ryan Helmig.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Lone Jack Christian Church or Village Hospice and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
