Lorene McCue

November 25, 1926 — November 26, 2013

Lorene McCue, 87, of Greenwood, Missouri, was born November 25, 1926, in Strasburg, Missouri, the daughter of Charlie and Alice Sisteen (Cates) Ballard. She departed this life at 5:20 p.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at the Golden Living Center, Independence, Missouri.

She was a graduate of Strasburg High School, continuing her education she received her Bachelor's degree in teaching from the Central Missouri State Teachers College, Warrensburg.

On August 11, 1949 she was united in marriage to Joseph Wendell McCue. Following their marriage they moved to Greenwood to make their home.

Before retiring, Lorene was employed as a first grade school teacher for over 30 years with the Greenwood/Lee's Summit School districts. She had a passion for teaching her students and truly enjoyed her time spent with all of her students.

She was a member of the Greenwood 1st Baptist Church. In her spare time she enjoyed dining out, spending time with her family, and boating at the Lake of the Ozarks. She enjoyed life and was always a happy person.

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Joe McCue of Lake Tapawingo; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Dana McCue of Lake Tapawingo; one granddaughter, Kacy (and Brandon) Sawyers of Blue Springs; two great grandchildren, Americis Sawyers and Peyton Sawyers; two sisters, Etta Mae Wingert of Marshall, Missouri, and Charlene Looney of Springfield, Missouri; other relatives; and many friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 30, 2013, at the funeral home. Reverend Tony Reynolds of the Appleton City 1st Christian Church officiated. Interment was in the Strasburg Cemetery. Casket bearers were Lance Baker, Vaughn Baker, Dan Flippo, Josh Flippo, Sam McCloud, and Ken Wheeler.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Harden Hospice and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
