Lyle Jacob Seelinger, 68, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born Saturday, March 11, 1944, in Butler, Missouri, the son of Lyle R. and Mildred C. (Verguson) Seelinger. He departed this life at 11:15 a.m. on Monday, September 17, 2012 at the St. Joseph Medical Center, Kansas City, with his wife Marianne by his side.

Lyle was a 1962 Butler High School Graduate; and was a United States Vietnam War Navy veteran.

On September 17, 1967, he was united in marriage to Marianne Veach in Lone Jack, Missouri. They were an inseparable duo from then on, wherever one went the other followed, faithfully supporting each other's endeavors.

Lyle was employed as a Radio and Telecommunications Technician for the Missouri State Highway Patrol, retiring in 1994. He was an active and faithful member of the Lone Jack Christian Church where he served as Elder. His hobbies included woodworking, gardening and crafting, and wine making.

Lyle's passion for serving his fellow veterans led him down a long and dynamic path with the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a former member and past commander of the VFW Post #3118, Pleasant Hill; current member of VFW Post #2513, and American Legion Post #131, Warrensburg; was past 6th District Commander; former State Surgeon; former Jr. Vice Commander and current Sr. Vice Commander of the state of Missouri; and was current Certified National Recruiter. Lyle had served on numerous other post, district, state and national VFW positions.

Perhaps his service to his fellow veterans can be summed up with the following quote: "It's a sad day for all Veterans as we have lost one of the best Veteran Advocates who ever served. I don't know of anyone who was more selfless in serving the needs of our Veterans and active duty military; he truly loved his mission and pursued it with enthusiasm and dedication. We'll miss you Brother......." Richard Jacobs. Past 6th District Commander

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother Charles Seelinger; one sister Myrna Smith; and his in-laws Max & Blanche Underwood, who died earlier this year.

He is survived by his wife and best friend Marianne of the home; two brothers Larry (and Elzora) Seelinger of Pleasant Hill, and Gerald (and Patty) Seelinger of Warrensburg, Missouri; his sister Roma (and LaVerne) Welch of Adrian, Missouri; other relatives and a host of many friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, September 24, 2012, at the funeral home. Reverend Michael Stephens of the United Church of Christ, Raytown officiated. Graveside military services and interment were held in the Strasburg Cemetery with full military honors by the Warrensburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2513 and American Legion Post #131 Honor Guards. Casket bearers were members of both posts. Honorary casket bearers were Kent Adkins, Tim Flagler, Harold Hackler, Robert Lyons, and Wayne Miller.

Visitation was held prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Lyle's memory are suggested to the Veteran's Service Officer Fund and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
