Lee's Summit

Marilyn Marie Hays, 91, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, was born December 30, 1933, in Hutton Valley, Missouri, the daughter of Rolland and Esther M. (Srock) Bryan. She departed this life Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the Carnegie Village Care Center in Belton, surrounded with love and family.

Marilyn was a 1950 Willow Springs, Missouri, high school graduate.

On January 12, 1952, she was united in marriage to Donald E. Hays in Independence and to this union three children, Kim, Joy, and Ronda were born. Don preceded her in death on November 15, 2017.

Marilyn was first employed as a Personnel Manager for J.C. Penney’s in North Kansas City. She later became a Loan Officer for the Kansas City Bank and Trust and later for the Community Bank of the Ozarks retiring in 1984. She was a member of the Kent Memorial Lutheran Church in Sunrise Beach and was currently attending the Lakeland Community Church in Lee’s Summit. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Summit Chapter #101, Lee’s Summit, the Erie Star Chapter #332, Camdenton, and the White Shrine. She enjoyed traveling, reading, sewing, quilting, gardening, rock collecting, and spending time at the lake. Above all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Marilyn was also preceded in death by her parents; three siblings, Richard Bryan, Janet Harger, and Phyllis Gammon; and her son Kim.

She is survived by two daughters, Joy (and William) Whitlow of Sunrise Beach and Ronda (and Tom Stone) Wood of Lee’s Summit; daughter-in-law, Edie Hays-Bleish of Farley; eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Cremation has been accorded.

A celebration of her life will be held 6:00 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2025, at the Lakeland Community Church, 913 NE Colbern Rd, Lee's Summit, MO 64086. The family will receive friends and light refreshments will be served following the celebration. 

Graveside service and inurnment will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2025, at the Kent Memorial Lutheran Church Columbarium, 184 Sunset Hills Dr, Sunrise Beach, MO 65079.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Lakeland Community Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
