Michael Wayne "Buck" Buxton, 63, a lifelong resident of Pleasant Hill, was born Monday, December 5, 1949, in Kansas City, the son of Charles "Buck" and Dorothy Mae "Dot" (Johnson) Buxton. He departed this life at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at the Harrisonville Health Center.

Mike graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1967 and attended Southwest Missouri State University. Following his time at SMSU he spent six years with the Missouri National Guard. When he returned to Pleasant Hill he worked for Western Electric, Missouri Public Service, and drove for several trucking companies in the area. Later he owned and operated Buck's Garage in Pleasant Hill. Mike was a gifted mechanic and craftsmen. He was a member of the Strasburg Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father Buck Buxton; mother Dorothy "Dot" Phillips; one brother Charles Buxton; and his step-father Henry "H.D" Phillips.

Mike is survived by his step-brother Martin (and Susan) Phillips of Kansas City; one step-sister Cheryl (and Ted) McIntosh of Leawood; special friends and caregivers Gary and Karen Moulder of Pleasant Hill; several cousins; several nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at the funeral home. Pastor Preston Sanders of the Strasburg Baptist Church officiated. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers were Greg McClure, Gary Moulder, Martin Phillips, Jay Sanders, Mike Scott, and John Stodgell.

Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Strasburg Baptist Church or Crossroads Hospice and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
