Mike Mansfield

March 13, 1949 — April 16, 2016

Pleasant Hill, Missouri

Michael Kevin Mansfield, 67, of Pleasant Hill, the family man, the Marine, the legend, was born March 13, 1949 in Poughkeepsie, New York, the son of Joseph and Marion (Robinson) Mansfield. He departed this life Saturday, April 16, 2016, peacefully at his home surrounded with love and family.

Michael attended St. Peter's Catholic School in Poughkeepsie in his early school years: later transferring to the Poughkeepsie public schools for Junior and Senior High. He was heavily involved in track; earning a varsity letter in track for the mile. He graduated in 1967 and was drafted and chose to join the Marine Corp in 1968. In his military career he served two tours in Vietnam, was a recruiter for four years, and was stationed throughout the United States and the world. In 1991 he retired as Gunnery Sergeant after 23 years.

On May 1, 1992, he was united in marriage to Robin C. Cameron in Dillon, South Carolina; they moved to Pleasant Hill in 1998.

Mike was active in the community; he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post# 3118, Pleasant Hill, and the Pleasant Hill Masonic Lodge. He was well known for his presentations of the colors at every home football game, flag etiquette presentations, as well as other presentations at all the local schools.

Michael loved history, his country, his family, and bad puns. He was the funniest person he knew and he spread laughter everywhere he went. He was a fighter, a hero, and an all around fantastic guy. He wants it to be remembered that he tried his best, loved his family, and was always there to help. He will be severely missed by all who knew and loved him. Semper Fi!!

Michael is survived by his wife, Robin; his children Sean (and Leanna) Mansfield, Shannon (and John) Rodriguez, Kara (and Kevin), Haber, Tiffany (and Jack) Crumpton, Iris Mansfield, Elisabeth Mansfield, Adam Mansfield, Amber (and Ed) Jones, Russell (and Andrea) Robinson, and Robert Robinson; his grandchildren, Ethan Mansfield, Jeremy Mansfield, Sean Rodriguez, Cayleigh Rodriguez, Owen Haber, Colin Haber, Caleb Haber, Trey Jones, Trent Jones, Tyler Jones, Tanner Jones, and Micaela Robinson; siblings, Jim (and Liz Eirber) Mansfield, Kathy (and Peter) Doreo, Joe (and Julie) Mansfield, and Maureen Mansfield; other relatives and a host of many friends.
