Mima Kapke

Mima Josephine Kapke, 99, of Pleasant Hill, was born May 22, 1915, in Houstonia, Missouri, the daughter of George Edward and Ellen Mary (Hayman) Janisch. She passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at the Villages of Jackson Creek, in Independence.

Mima was a Houstonia High School graduate later earning her teacher's certificate from The Central Missouri State Teachers' College at Warrensburg. In 1937, she was selected as one of the Campus Queens of Beauty.

On December 28, 1941, she was united in marriage to Paul Kelley Kapke. Theirs was a loving union which endured for over sixty-two years until his death in May of 2004.

Mima spent her entire career in the Pleasant Hill School District as an instructor in history, physical education and as coach of the girls' basketball team. In the mid nineteen fifties, the family began spending a part of each summer at the Hines-Kapke Cabin on Star Island in Cass Lake, Minnesota a tradition that has continued through four generations. After retirement, a condominium in St. Augustin, Florida was also a frequent destination. Mina will also be remembered for her prize winning roses and as an accomplished Bridge player.

Mima was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Frank Janisch, and sister, Mary Ellen Hines.

She is survived by two sons, George Edward Kapke (Beth) of Independence, and Paul K.elley Kapke, Jr. (Mary Anne) of Jacksonville Beach, Florida.; four grandchildren, Rachel Dold (Christopher) of Kansas City, George Edward "Ted" Kapke, Jr. (Jamie) of Prairie Village, Jessica Wright (Corey), and Paul Kelley Kapke, III, both of Jacksonville Beach, Florida; as well as six great grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews who enriched her life immeasurably.

The family wishes to thank staff members at The Villages of Jackson Creek's Memory Unit and Gentiva Hospice for their dedicated and loving care.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home. Private burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cottey College, Pleasant Hill Cemetery, or the Pleasant Hill Education Foundation in care of the funeral home.
