Paul Purvis

Paul W. Purvis, 93, of Pleasant Hill, was born, Friday, February 13, 1920, in Morgan County, Missouri, near Fortuna, the son of Isam S. & Effie May (Brown) Purvis. He departed this life at 2:50 a.m., Sunday, June 09, 2013, at the Pleasant Hill Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Paul was a 1939 East Lynne High School graduate.

On July 14, 1951, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Owsley Smith in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on November 20, 2006.

Paul worked as a farmer in the Strasburg, Garden City, and Pleasant Hill area; as an implement dealer and salesman in Pleasant Hill, Platte City, Lee's Summit, and Holden; for Farmland Industries with Central Cooperative in Pleasant Hill; for Audrain County Cooperative, in Mexico, Missouri; and for Farmway Service Cooperative in Holts Summit, Missouri.

He was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church in Pleasant Hill, downtown coffee club, and a past member of the Pleasant Hill Lions Club.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers Harold Purvis and Elmo Purvis; a step daughter Betty; and two great grandchildren Chad & Sandra.

He is survived by two sons, Jim (and Kelly McArtor) Purvis, of Pleasant Hill, and Will (and Carol) Purvis of Springfield, Missouri; three daughters Becky (and Bill) Curtin, of Pleasant Hill, Wanda (and Bob) Haas of Hobe Sound, Florida, and Patti (and Mike) Guess of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; 26 Grandchildren; 51 Great Grandchildren; 3 Great-great Grandchildren; sister-in-law Edith Purvis of Danville, Illinois; two nephews Stan (and Karen) Purvis of Lake Tapps, Washington, and George (and Elaine) Purvis of LaGrange, Kentucky; one niece Jeanne Purvis Burke of Danville; other relatives; and many friends.

A celebration of Paul's life was held Saturday, June 15, 2013, at the funeral home. Reverend David Noble officiated. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Visitation was held Friday evening at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Big Creek Baptist Church building fund and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
