Richard O. Florea, 64, of Kingsville, Missouri, was born Wednesday, March 5, 1947 in Lawrence, Kansas, the son of Glen O. and Anna M. (Gill) Florea. He departed this life Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at his home near Kingsville.

He was a graduate of North Nodaway High School in Hopkins, Missouri, a United States Air Force Vietnam War veteran, and an officer with the Kansas City Missouri Police Department.

On September 16, 1972, Richard was united in marriage to Mary Frances Patti in Kansas City, Missouri.

Richard was a police officer with the Kansas City Police Department for over 20 years retiring in 1996. As an officer he worked patrol out of the Metro Division, was a member of the Tactical Unit followed by work in the Internal Affairs Department. After his promotion to Sergeant he worked in the Crime Evidence Unit, then the Robbery Unit followed by many years with the Homicide Unit.

He was an avid fisherman, and spent many vacations fishing in Canada. He was the ultimate jokester and always full of good humor. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his wife Fran of the home; two daughters Angela Davis and her husband Terry of Kingsville, and Diane Neal and her husband Eric of Wichita, Kansas; five grandchildren Dillon, Delaney, Donovan, Logan, and Amanda; his mother Anna Marie Florea of Stillwell, Kansas; two sisters Barbara Gieseke and her husband Gene of Kansas City, Missouri, and Carolyn Levine of Stillwell, Kansas; other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, June 26, 2011, at the funeral home. Pastor Bob Jeppson officiated. Casket bearers were members of the Kansas City Police Department Honor Guard. Full military honors were conducted by the Pleasant Hill VFW Post #3118 Honor Guard at the funeral home.

Per Richard's request cremation will be accorded following the service and his ashes will spread on his favorite fishing lake in Canada at a later date.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Leukemia Society, his grandson is a leukemia survivor, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
