Rick Mehrer

William Richard "Rick" Mehrer, 51, of Lee's Summit, Missouri, formerly of Greenwood, Missouri, was born April 6, 1965, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of William Irving and Vicki Lynn (Hibdon) Mehrer. He departed this life Monday, September 26, 2016, at the University of Kansas Hospital.

Rick was a 1983 Lee's Summit High School graduate, and earned a BS and Master's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri at Rolla in 1988 and 1991, respectively.

On April 5, 2014, he was united in marriage to Michelle Marie Keller in Independence, Missouri.

He was employed as a Civil Engineer for the United States Government for 25 years, working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Forest Service, and the U.S. Veterans Administration. He was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Chi Epsilon fraternity.

Rick was a huge sports fan, especially of his hometown Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs. He was a skilled golfer and avid reader. More than anything, Rick enjoyed spending time with his family.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Irving and Vicki Mehrer.

He is survived by his wife Michelle of the home; 5 step-children, Anastasia Roeber of Lee's Summit, Benaiah Roeber of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Samson Roeber of Brooklyn, New York, Gabrielle Roeber of Miami, Florida, and Elizabeth Bourne of Lee's Summit; 4 step-grandchildren, Jaden, Keegan, Lily, and Khristian. Rick is also survived by his siblings, David (and Lisa) Mehrer of Lee's Summit, Paul (and Jill) Mehrer of Phoenix, Arizona, Aaron (and Brandy) Mehrer of Lee's Summit, Dana Mehrer of Kansas City, and Jeremy Mehrer of Raytown; 12 nieces and nephews, Zachary, Tristan, Jacob, Ryan, Elaina, McKenna, Nathan, Jamie, Chase, Lily, Emily, and William.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 1, 2016, at the funeral home. Interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery. Casket bearers were Aaron Mehrer, David Mehrer, Jacob Mehrer, Jeremy Mehrer, Paul Mehrer, Ryan Mehrer, Tristan Mehrer, and Zachary Mehrer.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
