Robert E. "Gene" Murphy

Robert Eugene “Gene” Murphy of Parkville, Missouri, formerly of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born December 3, 1933, in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Johnny Murphy and Dorothy Patterson. He departed this life Thursday, April 8, 2025, at the NorthCare Hospice House, Kansas City.

Gene was a 1951 Parkville High School graduate, where he enjoyed playing sports, especially basketball.

He was as United States Navy Veteran serving aboard the USS Whetstone.

On June 30, 1953, he was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Patterson in Riverside. She preceded him in death on March 10, 2005.

Gene was employed as an Engineer Manager for the Alameda and Rafael Hotels in Kansas City. He was of the Methodist faith. He enjoyed motorcycle riding and all things automotive. He enjoyed going to car shows and visiting local dealerships just to look at cars. He also enjoyed traveling with his vintage Spitfire across the United States.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, John Skaggs; and his son, Michael D. Murphy.

He is survived by his daughter, Kelly Jean (and Larry) Collins, of Tempe, Arizona; daughter-in-law, Karen Ann Murphy of the Lake of the Ozarks, two grandsons, Robert Garret (and Sonya Geiger) Murphy of Sterling, Virginia, and Ryan Collins of Tempe; and two great grandchildren.

Cremation has been accorded. Private interment will be in the Longview Cemetery at a later date.
