Shorty Hamilton

Marion Ray "Shorty" Hamilton, 92, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born Tuesday, May 17, 1921, in Lone Jack, Missouri, the son of Cleveland and Blanche (Morse) Hamilton. He departed this life at 4:55 a.m. Thursday, October 31, 2013, at the Lee's Summit Medical Center.

Shorty was a 1940 Pleasant Hill High School graduate. He proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theatre of operations.

On July 8, 1943, he was united in marriage to Emma Lou Thompson in Pleasant Hill; she preceded him in death on August 23, 1987. On October 29, 1988, he was united in marriage to Hattie Marie (Ullery) Poindexter in Pleasant Hill. She survives.

Shorty was employed as the Assistant Postmaster in the Pleasant Hill Post office retiring in 1975. He was a former member of the Pleasant Hill Board of Education, a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3118 where he served as Vice Commander and Adjutant, and a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. His hobbies included gardening, fishing, and hunting.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers Elmer Hamilton and Albert Hamilton, and three sisters, June Earl, Bonnie James, and Maxine Hamilton.

He is survived by his wife Hattie of the home; two sons, Steve Hamilton of Kansas City, Missouri, and John Gregory (and Tammy) Hamilton of Hermitage, Missouri; three grandchildren, Kellie (and Richie) Smith of Chesapeake, Virginia, Shannon (and Matt) Briesacher of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Tara (and Chris) Garcia of Kansas City, Missouri; four step children, Kay (and Ron) Aucliare of Kirkwood, Missouri, Sue (and Tom) Conroy of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Steve Poindexter of Kansas City, Missouri, and Karen (and Wayne) Bennett of Green Valley, Arizona; other relatives; and a host of many friends.

Visitation was held Monday, November 4, 2013, at the funeral home.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at the funeral home. Reverend Harold Johnson officiated and the Final Salute ceremony was be performed by members of VFW Post #3118. Graveside military services and Interment were in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with full military honors by the VFW Post #3118 Honor Guard.
