T.C. Courtney

T. C. Courtney, of Grandview, Missouri, was born May 3, 1925 in Ghent , Kentucky, the son of Worth Dickerson and Mary Ollie (Conner) Courtney. After a two year battle with cancer, T.C. passed to the Lord with his family at his side on Thursday, September 21, 2006 at the Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 81 years, 4 months and 18 days.

On January 1, 1947, T.C. was united in marriage to Zelma L. Day in Carrollton, Kentucky.

T.C. was employed as a clerk for the IRS at the Kansas City Campus until his retirement in 2003. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Grandview, Missouri and the American Legion, Kansas City. T.C. was a Marine veteran of World War II serving in the Iwo Jima Invasion. He loved fishing, gardening, hunting and woodworking. T.C. had lived in Kansas City before moving to Grandview in 1978.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Lewis; four sisters, Esther, Dolly, Lorene and Julia.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Zelma Courtney of the home; a son, Bob Courtney and wife Shery and two daughters, Norma L. Walton and Shirley Keith and husband Doug all of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a sister, Allen Kinman, Louisville, Kentucky; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, September 25, 2006 at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, Missouri with burial in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas City Hospice House.
